"While these guidelines have been developed of
outline a standard of care protocol for the treatment of deformational
plagiocephaly, special cases may require deviation from this protocol
per the physicians' discretion.
An example of this may be an infant who presents at less than three
months of age with severe plagiocephaly by in utero constraint.
Because the deformity began in utero, repositioning and physical
therapy alone are unlikely to produce an acceptable outcome and
orthotic cranioplasty may be prescribed.
Conversely, even in cases where the deformity has been determined to
be moderate to severe, if the parents are not concerned about the head
shape and do not wish to enter orthotic treatment, then aggressive
repositioning and physical therapy may still be advised."
